Birding Vartry Reservoir
Vartry Reservoir is located in County Wicklow, one of several reservoirs serving the Dublin catchment area. There are actually two reservoirs but this page is focussed on the most southerly water supply. There is a walkway along the east side of the damn with spectacular views of the Sugarloaf Mountain on the far side of the lake.
In addition to the lake, there are almost 20 kilometres of trails that take you through woodlands of mature Pine Trees, some of which are approximately one hundred years old. This visit was predominantly focussed on the birds in the lake and in the woodlands along the damn.
The roadway that runs along the boundary has been widened to allow for parking during your visit. There is room for over 20 cars. Sat-Nav co-ordinates for parking are 53.071746, -6.204767
