Birds of Cape Cod
Although this site is focussed on the birds of Ireland, here is a selection of photographs taken in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA during June 2022. As I was staying in South Yarmouth, many of the photographs were taken in the area, particularly at Bass River Beach and around Wilbur Park. I also visited the Fort Hill Trail near Eastham which has two carparks and an abundance of birds!
Bass River Beach has a nesting post for Ospreys and there is always a pair on the nest in summer. There are also regular fly overs of other Ospreys. The grasslands at the back of the beach are alive with different bird varieties. There is also a marshy area opposite the entrance to the car park. Wilbur Park has access to the Bass River and Ospreys fly over the area regularly.
Fort Hill Trail is a superb area for birds. It is quite small, it would take you just under an hour to walk it – and that includes plenty of stops. There are woodland and grassland areas and also amazing views across the marshes to the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to birds, you can see rabbits, foxes and deer.
